The styling concept for the new Swift is “dynamic and energetic”. The new Swift inherits a look in which a short, wide, compact body appears to be bursting with energy. Increased track and larger diameter wheels with lower profile tyres allow for even better handling than the already highly acclaimed outgoing Suzuki Swift.

The headlights are longer, bigger and they sweep back further towards the front door. The tail-lights follow the design philosophy applied to the headlights and they are longer too. New Swift has grown slightly in length (+90mm) with a 50mm increase in wheelbase. The rear bumper appears larger than the old Swift too.

The interior design now has a more dynamic feel, featuring black as its keynote colour with accents of silver throughout the car. The instrument panel is distinguished by contrasts between a stylish black keytone colour and sharp silver-coloured details. On the seats, they're created by refined-looking silver-coloured details on bold, chic black colour.

Inside the cabin the car gets a brand new steering wheel and new buttons on it. The instrument panel is totally pepped up with a digital readout. The petrol variant will return a mileage of around 20 km a litre, as compared to 17.9 km per litre certified by the Automotive Research Association of India. Similarly, the diesel model will deliver around 23.8 km per litre, as against the existing 21 km a litre.

Maruti Swift may also offer a four-speed automatic transmission option in the petrol version, besides the regular five-speed manual. Engineers have also achieved a substantial reduction in the overall weight of the car by replacing the metal fuel tank with a plastic tank. This will improve its fuel efficiency by a little over 13 per cent.

The interior design creates a sharp, energetic look and feel in line with the new Swift’s performance. Dynamic, sporty forms and exquisite craftsmanship contribute to a great driving experience. In the cabin, Suzuki’s expertise in compact-car space efficiency is reflected in proportions that optimize roominess and comfort. Notwithstanding the new Swift’s compact dimensions, there’s sufficient space for rear passengers and for luggage.

Emissions are much lower as well; the new 1.2-litre engine with manual transmission produces just 116g/km on the combined cycle; representing a 24g/km or 17 per cent improvement over the 1.3. An optional automatic transmission will be available for the petrol engine from launch.

This will be the first major face-lift for the Swift since it was launched six years ago. Pricing details of the new car has not been shared by the company. The report stated that for installing the plastic fuel tanks, Maruti Suzuki India has tied up with France’s Plastic Omnium, the world’s largest manufacturer of plastic fuel tanks as it was mentioned that plastic fuel tanks are usually 25-35 per cent lighter than the conventional metal tanks. Besides, these are corrosion-free, durable, non-explosive and easily recyclable.

The previous Swift has been praised for the nimble-feeling handling and performance. With the new model, Suzuki realized an even stronger sense of nimbleness and greater stability by means of newly refined wide-tread, short-wheelbase dimensions, greater rigidity in the body and suspension mountings, and greater roll stiffness.

The car will come with 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel variants. It was reported that the new model, built on a slightly longer yet new platform, will be little extra roomy, lighter and return better mileage than the current generation Swift. The new Swift’s handling reflects a newly evolved, more mature kind of sportiness. It inspires even greater confidence in the driver.

To ensure high levels of driver confidence and control, the new Swift has an outstanding range of safety technologies as well. In the cabin, Suzuki’s expertise in compact-car space efficiency is reflected in proportions that optimize roominess and comfort. Notwithstanding the new Swift’s compact dimensions, there’s sufficient space for rear passengers and for luggage.
