Delhi Auto Expo 2010 : Mahindra and Mahindra

Mahindra and Mahindra dominates the SUV segment in the passenger vehicle division in India. The company is well-established in this segment with its popular models like Bolero, Scorpio and Xylo. At the upcoming Delhi Auto Expo 2010, Mahindra and Mahindra will showcase its eco-footprints at the event. M&M’s new research and development technologies have been preparing its models for cleaner and greener future.

“Our eco-friendly vehicles are proof of our commitment to a cleaner environment, fuel efficiency, and emphasis on customer satisfaction. Mahindra’s range of drivable SUV hybrids and biofuel vehicles are well suited for the dense traffic conditions and driving habits of our customers,” noted Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, Mr. Anand Mahindra.

The company is concentrating more on its commercial vehicles this time apart from its passenger vehicle division. A key model expected from the commercial segment is the Mahindra Navistar, a heavy truck.

The company further is expected to showcase Hybrid variant of Mahindra Scorpio at the Auto Expo. It will be a diesel-electric hybrid, not a petrol electric one as is generally the case abroad. The integration of technology will be completely seamless and transparent and the model will deliver a mileage of 16kmpl. The model will be launched commercially in India in next two years.

The company has also developed HY-Alpha which is the three-wheeler fuelled by hydrogen fuel and its will be on the display at the Delhi Auto Expo. It uses compressed gaseous hydrogen that is capable of giving a range of 170 km. Apart from this; the vehicle practically has zero Carbon dioxide and Carbon monoxide emissions.

Mahindra is displaying different platforms of drivable full hybrid vehicles, micro (start/stop) hybrid vehicles, bio-fuel vehicles, an electric passenger vehicle, a hydrogen combustion engine vehicle and many recyclable materials and reusable technologies.

We Proud Being a Part of Mahindra and Mahindra

The Mahindra Xylo has been a runaway success for Mahindra and Mahindra ever since it was launched earlier this year. The project was developed as “Ingenio” but the model was finally launched as Mahindra Xylo. The latest launch from the Mahindra stable has been very well received. A complete package, it has enough power to match the quality of any car in the segment.

Mahindra has recently launched new variants of Xylo with anti-breaking system (ABS), a much needed feature in a car which is meant to make many kilometers. However, the feature is available currently only in the E8 variant of the model.

The new anti-locking breaking system makes the existing E8 variants costlier by another Rs. 20,000 which makes the on-road price of existing E8 variant Rs. 937,400 (on road, Mumbai). The new ABS feature makes hard braking in Xylo easier and comes as an additional optional safety measure for the car.

I just say that, we are proud being a supplier and a part of Mahindra and Mahindra. You can check Mahindra Xylo – New Features, Comparison with Innova, Safari here.

M&M Make up a U-Turn to Africa

Mahindra and Mahindra is focusing its sales strategies towards the African market. The US market is still severely hit by the recessionary trends and the automobile sales have failed to pick up in recent past. The company now aims to sell its model more rigorously in the upcoming markets including those in Africa.

M&M is also setting up small manufacturing units in Africa and will export semi-knock down units from India. It is mainly aiming at markets like Ghana, Nigeria and Zambia and intends to sell utility vehicles and tractors as nearly one-third of the tractors sold in Africa are imported. There is a propensity among buyers in Africa to be brand loyal and that works in our favour,” said Anjanikumar Choudhari, president of M&M’s farm equipment business.

Tractors from M&M are more technically sound and the company has managed to sell nearly 1600 tractors so far in these markets. It now aims to gear up its strategies to market its products more competitively in these markets.

M&M already marks a strong presence in India in tractor and utility vehicle segment. It is not strengthening its positions in the Australian, American and the African nations. It is also increasing its presence in China where it has two ventures with ancheng Tractors and Mahindra China Tractor.

Mahindra's New Variant : Xylo MPV with ABS (Anti-lock Breaking System)

After Mahindra's Beautiful Dream XYLO again they are ready to launch new features in its popular MPV Xylo by the end of this month. The higher end model of Xylo E8 will now have anti-braking system as an option and will be available at a price of Rs. 818,535. All Mahindra dealerships will offer this option from June end.

It happens because they have got customer feedback and suggestions on their Xylo E8. Anti-lock Breaking System (ABS) is an option in the Xylo E8. Now ABS makes the XYLO an even safer vehicle to drive. Further they are going to introduce this technology in other variants in future based on customer's demand.

Mahindra Xylo was launched earlier this year and has taken the MPV market by storm ever since its launch. It has been one of the most successful models to be launched this year and has already crossed 16,000 bookings in India. It offers complete luxury comforts of a SUV and the new anti-braking system will further improve vehicle stability by preventing the wheels from locking when brakes are applied on any skid-prone surface (snow, water, loose gravel, or even oil). So, if you wish to get a test drive of it then you have to wait for June end.

Mahindra and Mahindra : A New Scooter Segment

To take on Hero Honda, Bajaj Auto, Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India. Almost a year after India’s premier tractor and utility vehicles maker, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), announced the acquisition of Kinetic Motors, it has put up a blueprint to enter every key segment of the two-wheeler market.

The Mumbai-based company will take on Hero Honda, Bajaj Auto and Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India (HMSI) and will have models in the 100cc, 125cc and 150cc mobike segments, and also in the ungeared low and high-powered scooter segments.

Hero Honda has a 60 per cent share of the motorcycle segment, while HMSI commands 58 per cent of the scooter market.

At a press conference, Anand Mahindra, vice-chairman and managing director, M&M, said: “Our two-wheeler project is complete; we have already begun marketing the fleet in Bangalore .” When asked what two-wheeler products will roll out, Mahindra replied, “You will be able to see it soon.”

The company is planning to leverage the research and development (R&D) strength of Engines Engineering Srl, an Italian engine and design company it bought last year. The company specialises in developing small yet powerful and fuel-efficient engines for motorcycles. The idea is to establish M&M in the two-wheeler segment through transfer of technical knowhow.

In addition, SYM, the Taiwanese two-wheeler company, which has agreed to extend its tie-up to M&M after the Kinetic takeover, will also help provide technology, perhaps more for the gearless scooters segment.

“Our ultimate goal is to be in every segment of the two-wheeler industry and this will be achieved through the strong R&D support M&M currently has. We want to be in the big engine segment of motorcycles, as well as in the smaller entry-level scooters”, said a source from Mahindra Two Wheelers.

The company is reportedly developing a 650cc-750cc petrol-fired engine with the help of the Italian company. However, it has refused to give details.

M&M currently sells only a gearless scooter called Flyte. This product, originally built by SYM, has been altered by M&M to suit the Indian consumer. Its sales have more than doubled after the Kinetic takeover. M&M currently sells 3,500-4,500 units of the scooter a month, as against the 1,500-2,000 units sold earlier. According to sources, demand for the scooter has been growing 50-70 per cent every month, mainly on account of improved marketing techniques.

Freshly developed products by the company may see co-branding of Mahindra Kinetic, as both companies enjoy a strong brand value.

M&M had earlier bought the business assets of the then loss-making Kinetic Motor Co, run by the Pune-based Firodia family, for Rs 110 crore. M&M holds 80 per cent in the new entity, while the balance is held by Kinetic. Now all we are eagerly waiting for new segment of scooters from M&M.
