Nano To Be Moved Up in Latin American Markets

Yeah! It is the next step from Tata Motors that they are going to launch Nano in Latin American Markets. Tata Motors is planning to launch Nano in Latin America in partnership with Italian auto maker Fiat. Fiat holds a strong presence in these countries and also has rights to market Nano in the overseas market. Launching of Nano will be a part of this marketing strategic alliance between Fiat and Tata Motors. Ratan Tata, Chairman of Tata Group, is already a Director at Fiat.

Both the companies are also planning to bring Ferrari and Maserati to Indian auto market. In India, Tata Motors and Fiat have a 50-50 joint venture to manufacture engines.

Nano has already passed the crash test for European market and has cleared all the safety tests required by European union norms.

Tata Motors launched Nano at the Delhi Auto Expo last year and the model hit the Indian roads in July 2009. The mother plant is still under construction at Sanand near Gujarat and Tata Motors is currently manufacturing Nano at its Pantnagar facility in Uttrakhand. Tata Motors has already selected the first one lakh lucky owners and deliveries for the same are going on in phased manner. Allotment letters to the lucky winners have already been dispatched to respective winners.

Nano May Rule out the Indian Rural Market

Nano is likely to replace M800 and Omni in rural India and is likely to dominate the Indian roads owing to the fact that the new emission norms in India will be enforced from April 1, 2010. The existing models of Maruti 800 and Omni are not compliant with the new BS-IV norms which may force the M800 off the road. The new BS-IV compliant model from Maruti will be available only by end of 2011. Meanwhile, the absence of M800 will give added leverage to Nano in the market.

“This (absence of Maruti 800 and Omni) would mean no direct competition to Nano. The important question is whether Tata Motors would be able to manufacture enough units of Nano that would meet the demand.” said Kapil Arora, Partner (Automobile), Ernst & Young.

Tata Nano is already a raging hit amongst Indian customers and people are anxiously waiting for the models to be available on road. However, one of the drawbacks of Nano is that its mother plant is still not operational and will be completed towards the end of 2009. Full capacity production at the plant will begin only after the plant is completed which means Nano is also likely to miss out on the crucial lead time it was supposed to gain over Maruti models.

Tata Motors has reported loss of Rs. 2500 crores last year largely due to its luxury models and its acquisitions. In order to cover the loss, the company will need to sell at least 2.5 lakh units of the Nano to make money from the world’s cheapest car. This figures is not too difficult looking at the booking figures and purchasing power of Indian customers.

Electric and Hybrid Cars from Tata Motors

Yeah! It is the right news that Tata Motors is going to build Electric and Hybrid Cars on Nano Platform. They are planning to launch electric and hybrid cars in India. It will manufacture these cars on Nano platform . It means again we have to wait another miracle from Tata Motors in the form of electric car that come in the market soon.

If we think on Nano, it's my feelings that the Nano is not a simple small car. But whatever is the matter, the ready platform of Nano is being used to create higher end models suited for families and will sell for higher price with better margins. For some days, we have to wait for its price and the specifications of this new cars.

It is a micro-hybrid version likely to be supplied by German engineering major, Bosch. As we know that currently, Bosch is supplying the fuel and braking systems for the Nano. So ready for such a micro-hybrid car soon.

What Is The Real Cost of Owning The Wonder Car - Nano?

All we know that the Nano cost Rs. 1 lakh but how much will you have to cough up to run the car? Two-wheeler companies have been saying that the running cost will differentiate the Nano from a premium motorcycle brand. ET worked out the math.

The entry-level Nano, with its Rs. 1-lakh price tag, is expected to have an on-road price of Rs. 1.35 lakh in Pune. This will include the road tax of around Rs 10,000 including Rs. 2000-3,000 as registration and a one-time comprehensive insurance payment of Rs. 4,374.

The EMI for a five-year tenure loan is Rs. 2,300 added to which will be the petrol bill, with the Nano boasting a fuel efficiency of 23.6 km to a litre of petrol. In Pune, petrol retails at Rs. 44.29 per litre.

Explaining the tariff structure, the Maharashtra transport commissioner, Deepak Kapoor, said individual buyers have to pay 7% as road tax on the total cost of the car, which rises to 14% for corporates. Moreover, the tariff structure is based on the cost and not on the size of the engine. “We are not expecting huge tax collection on the Nano since its base price is low,” Mr Kapoor said.

The Nano’s insurance costs are also higher than two-wheelers. Finance industry professionals tracking the sector said the EMI on a higher-end Nano could be Rs. 3450-4000 for a five year loan while one-time insurance costs would be over Rs. 6,000.

When it comes to spare parts, though, the Nano is not going to be very different from other cars since all automotive manufacturers make their money on spares. “The world over, car makers always earn on spares and the Nano is not going to be any different. Individual spares of the car will probably cost the same as those of the Indica,” said a Nano vendor.

The owner of an automotive garage said the most commonly replaced parts in an Indica are front and rear bumpers.

Tata Motors To Give Back Dealers Over Unsold Nano Forms

My God! Bookings of Nano are over and many of us waiting for 1 Lakh Rs. car for a years (may be 1 or 2) and nobody thinks what happens about the Nano or its coming variants. Well, Tata Motors is understood to have begun refunding dealers across the country for unsold Nano booking forms. Caught up in the Nano excitement, each dealer had picked up between 2,000 and 10,000 application forms, but managed to sell not more than 30-35% of it, top dealers said. Dealers bought each booking form for Rs. 250 and sold it at a premium of around Rs. 300 to customers.

The company has informed the dealers that the Nano form money would be refunded. They are able to sell more than 50% of the forms bought from the Tata management. Dealers now admit that they overestimated the demand for the Nano. Most customers opted to stay out of the booking process as there was confusion over the procedure, unavailability of test drives and uncertainty over delivery schedules.

It is believed that while issuing the forms, Tata Motors had told dealers that the amount spent on forms will not be refunded. Many dealers approached the company and requested about the refunding, as the amount is quite substantial. The company initially asked dealers to wait but now, they have been told that the amount would be refunded. I don't know what happens next?

Tata Motors received over 2.03 lakh bookings for its Rs. 1 lakh car Nano, collecting nearly Rs. 2,500 crore. The company sold a total of 6.10 lakh forms. Although initial industry expectations were around 5 lakh bookings, company officials maintain that the company has gathered a good response at a time when the car market is struggling for volumes.

Whatever the matter but one thing is clear many middle class families must have to wait for their dream car for at least 1-2 years.

Can Maruti Alto compete to Tata's Nano

Maruti - the pioneer of 4 wheelers segment has distinct to strip down its popular model – Alto to compete with Nano directly. Another fully loaded model of Alto with the new KB series engine will be inaugurated to compete with models like Hyundai Santro, GM Spark and other similar models in the small car segment.

Maruti is to patch up its small car portfolio completely. The company that sells every second car in India is ready to give fresh competition to other cars in the market. Maruti Swift is its largest selling bounty hatchback model which will be re-introduced as a face-lifted model with fresh design and a new engine. The company is sharply working on upgrading its models for the BS IV norms that become effective next year. New models of Maruti Versa and Zen Estilo are also expected in the market by October this year. A new model of Versa namely O2 will be introduced this year along with Zen Estilo with brand new exteriors and interiors.

Maruti Suzuki MD & CEO S. Nakanishi said, “We have exhausted our quota of new cars with eight new launches in India in the past three years. Now we are looking at beefing up our leadership by refreshing our old portfolio". Maruti will save a immense additive cost on enclosing new cars by introducing better models of its existing and well-established models that will be definitely more value for money for the existing and tested products. So, we have to just wait for new Maruti Alto.

Hyundai - Is a Nano Competitor?

I have seen the craze of Tata's "LAKHTAKIYA" car in past days. Nobody knows that Tata Group, especially, Honarable Shri. Ratanji Tata proved his words that he present 1 Lakh Rs. car to their Indian families. Especially for a common man. Still this craze not ends till time in India.

Some days back I have heard a news that Bajaj and Renault Nissan colaboration offers a competitor to Nano. But this car project has already hit several road blocks to make it to the set deadline of 2011.

Recently, one news hits in the Indian market that Hyundai is also planning to build up a Nano-competitor. As we know, Hyundai Motor India is the second largest car manufacturer in the country. India is also its small car manufacturing hub and the company has all the facilities to manufacture a small car in India, if desired.

Now the work begins to develop such Nano Competitor in India credited to Hundai Motors and we may see such a Nano competitor on the road. It is amazing to see who pick the Indian's common man market? Is Hyundai has been proved to be a competitor of Nano? I think, time proved it!

Maruti 800 : Still run on the road

Yeah! It is my attachment with "Maruti" (still I am not able to buy Maruti Alto - LXI due to some reasons) the get-go car of the world. I have booked this car just 2 months back. My car loan also has been allowed and waiting for disbursement but mean while some unavoidable circumstances resist me to take it at my home and still I am just dreaming about my dream car. It is my "Maruti Alto - Lxi". I am still trying to collect some amount to buy it within next 3 months. Let us see what happens? (God! Pleeeeeeease help me! My kid asking me everyday about it! Just do something for me.)

Actually some days before I have also read out the news that Maruti 800 phased out from the market coz the BS IV norms. But I thinks that one day comes and the Maruti management take out some strategic decision to alive this basic model for the Indian people. Till time Nano may runs on the road to show its importance but I feel and sense that there is no such vehicle made till date that competes my Maruti.

I have firm on my decisions because I have seen that my cousin sister's Maruti 800 AC still running without any difficulties on the road of Chembur. It is actually 10 years back model. I have just finished my driving class and it is the first day I am on driving wheel to take a ride of Maruti 800. It just simply marvelous. See, just pass out student from the driving class who has been trained within a month on another car i.e., Santro Zing and having 100% experience about the Power Steering technique. No! I do not face any difficulty while the rid of 10 years old Maruti 800 AC. It is the reason I have bound on my decision to buy only Maruti 800's variant - the "Maruti Alto - Lxi".

Now, one news knocked at the door whiles I am reading a newspaper that Maruti 800 never phased out from the market and really I am very glad to read it. I just say here, thanks to Maruti's management, especially, Mr. I V Rao, Managing Director, MSIL that they just alive the people's dream.
